PET waste represents a major environmental burden. In the recent decade enzymatic degradation has emerged as a promising strategy for PET recycling.
Full enzymatic degradation of PET requires specialized hydrolytic enzymes called PETases and accessory enzymes MHETases that convert PETase-generated degradation products into valuable chemicals.
We are currently working on thermostable MHETases.
